What Are Some Common Symptoms Of Athlete’s Foot?
Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection, close in relation to ringworm and jock itch. It is contagious and can spread from dirty socks and contaminated towels, clothing, and floors. Athlete’s foot typically begins in the toes and spreads. It can affect one foot or both and common signs and symptoms are:
- Scaly or cracked skin between the toes or even on the bottom of the foot that rises up the sides
- Itchiness, especially itchiness that peaks right after taking off shoes and socks
- Inflammation of the skin
- Burning/Stinging
- Blisters
Who Usually Gets Athlete’s Foot?
Anyone can get athlete’s foot, but the people who typically get it are:
- Those who wear closed shoes
- Those who sweat heavily, especially their feet
- Are in close proximity and share items with someone with a fungal infection
- Walk barefoot in public areas
This isn’t an exhaustive list as anyone can get athlete’s foot. It’s important to practice good hygiene by showering or bathing often, especially after sweating heavily, and to not wear clothes you have excessively sweat in.
