Dermal fillers are not all designed with the same components and characteristics, nor are all fillers intended for the exact same purpose. Restylane products are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that we are happy to use in patient care.
At Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics we offer the following Restylane family of products: Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne and Restylane Contour.
What Is Restylane?
Restylane is a dermal filler product family that is based on the beneficial aspects of hyaluronic acid. Restylane-L was one of the first dermal fillers used in the U.S., and it continues to achieve advantageous improvements in adults of all ages.
How Does Restylane Work?
Your body creates hyaluronic acid (HA) to lubricate joints and keep cartilage moist. HA is also an important component of your skin, contributing to tissue repair (wound healing). Q-Med, the makers of Restylane incorporate the unique qualities of HA into dermal filler that promotes skin hydration and drives collagen production. What does that brief lesson in biology mean to the residents of San Antonio? It means that you have a terrific option, Restylane and Restylane Lyft, to bring lift to your facial appearance and Restylane to restore the youthful plumpness to your lips, without surgery.
The HA used in Restylane is formulated in a laboratory, with the same chemical composition as the HA produced naturally by your body. Since it is not derived from animal sources, there is little risk of allergic reaction. This product is approved by the FDA as a cosmetic injectable. It is estimated that Restylane has been used in well over 11 million treatments, all over the world. Dr. Vivian Bucay has the training and experience to design a facial rejuvenation plan to suit your specific needs. That program may include Restylane alone, or in combination with other treatments for a Liquid Face Lift. This is a versatile injectable.
At the initial consultation, Dr. Bucay will take time to understand your goals, your current medical situation, and your lifestyle. If Restylane is right for you, every precaution is taken to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Dr. Bucay injects the product just under the skin with a fine needle, precisely and artistically addressing the treatment area.
Restylane Treatment Areas

- Diminish the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead and around the eyes; frown lines and crow’s feet.
- Add volume to facial hollows under the eyes and on the cheeks.
- Attractively contour chin, nose, and forehead.
Which Restylane Fillers Does Dr. Bucay Offer?
Dr. Bucay has years of experience using Restylane as a board-certified dermatologist and expert injector. Dr. Bucay offers Restylane Silk, Lyft, Reyne, and Defyne.
Dr. Bucay now offers Restylane Contour, the newest filler in the Restylane family. Dr. Bucay is the first to offer Restylane Contour!
Restylane Lyft has been developed with larger hyaluronic acid particles for specific use around the mouth and cheek areas. This product can replace missing volume to the midface to reduce hollows and give the face back its youthful contours through deeper insertion beneath the skin’s surface. Lyft may also be used to correct moderate to severe nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth. Results can last one year or longer.
Restylane Silk is a creamy, smooth gel that has been formulated with tiny hyaluronic acid particles for use around the lips. This product is administered superficially to add volume and definition to the lips and to decrease fine lines caused by aging. Results last approximately six months.
Refyne is one of the newest hyaluronic acid fillers to be born into the Restylane family. This product has been specially made with XpresHA Technology, which facilitates optimal flexibility for a natural look and feel. Typical uses for Restylane Refyne include correction of mild to moderate marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Results can last between six and twelve months.
Defyne is a sister-product to Refyne and is also made using XpresHA Technology to optimize the final result of treatment around the nose and mouth. This hyaluronic acid filler has a slightly thicker consistency than Refyne, though it is also flexible to promote skin suppleness. The density of Defyne may make this product more suitable for deep creases and lines.
The inclusion of lidocaine in each of our Restylane products significantly improves patient comfort during short treatment sessions.
Restylane® Contour balances the science and art of aesthetics, as cheeks are the cornerstone of the face. Now approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cheek augmentation and the correction of midface contour deficiencies, Restylane Contour adds to the growing Restylane Family of Products.
Specifically formulated for the cheeks, this HA filler provides dynamic contouring and shaping, and is formulated with XpresHAn TechnologyTM to maintain the cheek’s natural movement. Creating a natural contour allows your inner beauty to come alive with full natural expression.
How Long Does Restylane Last?
The beautiful results of Restylane are visible immediately, and last 6 to 18 months, depending on which specific filler is used.
Side Effects Of Restylane Injections
Downtime is minimal. While there can be some minor bruising or swelling, it is temporary and easily managed with cool compresses or over-the-counter analgesics.
