Dr.Vivian Bucay is the first to offer Kybella to San Antonio and South Texas!
Dr. Vivian Bucay has been chosen by Kythera (company that makes Kybella) to be a Faculty Regional Trainer. This means that Dr. Bucay will be responsible for training other dermatologists, doctors and injectors on the safety and appropriate use of Kybella to optimize patient outcomes.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if Kybella is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.
How long does it take to see results?
Your results depend on the amount of excess fat you have under your chin. Most patients begin seeing results 3-4 weeks post injection.
Does Kybella require anesthesia or an operating room?
Absolutely NOT. One of the beautiful things pertaining to Kybella is that it is not a surgical procedure and rather is an injectable similar to Botox injections or dermal fillers. If you are not a candidate for Kybella, you may be a good candidate for neck liposuction with/without a neck lift. Dr. Bucay will carefully explain and provide you with all of your options when it comes to improving your neck and jawline definition.
How many injections will I need?
This is different from patient to patient. Most patients end up receiving multiple Kybella injections (like Botox or fillers) in a single treatment. Which generally requires 3-4 treatment sessions about one month apart to see their optimal results.
How will my body react after receiving the injections?
Some individuals experience slight discomfort similar to other injectables for a brief period of time after the injection which resolves relatively quickly.
Is Kybella only for double chin reduction?
Yes. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its full approval for Kybella several weeks prior to its anticipated announcement date. The approved studies have been performed only for the sub-mental region, better known as double chin. It has not been approved anywhere else throughout the body at this time.
Who makes Kybella?
Kythera Biopharmaceuticals. In recent news, pharmaceutical giant Allergan (makers of Botox and Juvederm) submitted a bid to purchase Kythera (the maker of Kybella).
Can anyone have Kybella?
Patients with consolidated fat deposits and fullness underneath the chin, also known as double chin, are great candidates for having Kybella. Patients who have a lot of loose and hanging skin (“turkey neck”) are not good candidates for this procedure, because Kybella is not intended to remove skin. Also, if you suffer from bleeding problems or already have difficulty swallowing, you may not be a good candidate for Kybella. Dr. Bucay takes her time with every patient from the beginning to end. She will thoroughly review your medical history to see if Kybella or any other procedure is the right one for you.
What are the side effects?
The safety and effectiveness of Kybella were established in two large studies, which enrolled over 1,000 adult participants with moderate or severe submental fat. The participants who received Kybella (for up to six treatments) instead of a placebo (non-Kybella) more frequently saw reductions in fat and improved jawline/neckline contour. Kybella can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness, and trouble swallowing. The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are also the most common side effects seen with Botox injections or dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane.
Is Kybella permanent or is it temporary like Botox and Fillers?
Kybella results are completely different that Botox and Fillers. It’s a PERMANENT FAT DISSOLVING solution to a heavy neck/jawline. UNLIKE botox or dermal fillers, Kybella is permanent.
How much does Kybella cost?
Pricing for Kybella is based on your anatomic concerns and how many injections you may need. Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Bucay and her team will gladly go over pricing options available and come up with a price that makes sense to you.
