Emsella Treatment in San Antonio, TX

A Breakthrough Treatment for Incontinence and Confidence

Having no control over your bladder is an inconvenience that can really affect daily life. From leaving social situations to having to plan around where the next bathroom may be located, urinary incontinence can be a major burden.

Thankfully, at Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics, we are happy to offer patients urinary incontinence treatment by using EMSELLA® to help them regain control of their bladder.

What Is EMSELLA?

EMSELLA is a unique technology that revolutionizes the women's intimate health and wellness category by providing those suffering from incontinence with a completely non-invasive treatment option.

How Common Is Incontinence?

According to the Urology Care Foundation, almost a quarter to a third of men and women in the U.S. suffer from urinary incontinence. Nearly 33 million Americans suffer from an overactive bladder and exhibit symptoms of incontinence. When the pelvic floor muscles are weakened, patients can have difficulty controlling the release of urine.

What Are The Symptoms of Incontinence?

Knowing the symptoms of incontinence can help you identify whether you need treatment for it or not. Many people can mistake incontinence as simply needing to use the bathroom or “having a small bladder.” However, if you find yourself experiencing these symptoms often or having no control over them, it may be a sign you need treatment.

Symptoms of incontinence include:

  • Unexpected leaking of urine when coughing, sneezing, or laughing
  • Physical activities or exercise cause leaking
  • Feeling an uncontrollable urge to urinate
  • Needing to use the bathroom frequently
  • Waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom
  • Urinating while sleeping

How Does EMSELLA Treat Incontinence?

EMSELLA uses electromagnetic energy that stimulates the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract during each treatment. These contractions can help “train” or re-educate the muscles in incontinent patients. This treatment can be referred to as a “workout” for pelvic muscles, making them stronger with each contraction and allowing for improved control.

Who Is a Candidate for EMSELLA Treatment?

Ideal candidates for EMSELLA treatment are those who are in overall good health and suffering from symptoms of an overactive bladder. This treatment is popular with many women who experience a change in their bladder control after pregnancy, especially if their child is delivered naturally.

Patients who have metal implants in their bodies and other underlying health conditions may not be suitable for EMSELLA treatment and should consult their primary doctor to determine their options for treating incontinence.

How Long Do the Results of EMSELLA Treatment Last?

Because every patient is different, your initial consultation will allow your provider to determine the best treatment plan for you. But on average, most patients’ EMSELLA treatments only take about 30 minutes. Most see improvement within six sessions at the frequency of twice a week. These results can last up to six months.
