Have you noticed tiny little flaps of tissue on your skin that look like little bumps? These little flaps of skin are known as skin tags.
While skin tags are not considered serious, they can be extremely frustrating. They tend to get caught on clothing or snag on jewelry, which can cause intense itching or irritation. Luckily, skin tags can be treated with a relatively easy in-office procedure.
Dr. Vivian Bucay can help you learn more about skin tags and come up with a personalized treatment plan that will remove them.
What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags are harmless. They are tiny flaps of skin tissue that appear to hang off your body by a ‘stalk’ of skin.
Where Can They Form?
Skin tags can be found on almost any part of the body. However, some areas are more susceptible to them than others.
The most common areas to find skin tags include the chest, back, neck, beneath the breasts, in the armpits, or around the pelvic and groin area. It is unclear why these specific areas seem to be where skin tags occur the most.
Who Is At Risk?
This is a common problem that can happen to anyone, although, skin tags tend to be found on women and elderly individuals more than men and children. Skin tags are also commonly found on people who have recently gained weight.
How To Treat Skin Tags
Our staff at Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics offers three different treatment options for skin tags. All of the treatments can be performed during a single in-office visit.
Treatment options for skin tags include physically removing the tags with a pair of scissors or scalpel, freezing it off with cryosurgery, or burning it off with electrosurgery. No one treatment option is better than another and all cause very little pain.
