Your hands, while not always the first thing people look at, can really show signs of aging. Wrinkles, age spots, and sun spots on the hands can add years onto your appearance. Hand rejuvenation procedures can help you eliminate or dramatically reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots on the hands.
Dr. Vivian Bucay and her staff can help you discover a number of cosmetic procedures and treatments that will help reduce visible signs of aging in the hands.
Can Injectable Fillers be Used for Hand Rejuvenation?
The same injectable fillers that are used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles in the face can sometimes be used on the hands. These prescription injections often contain the active ingredient hyaluronic acid, which plumps up the skin and dramatically reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the hands.
Injectable fillers are commonly used for hand rejuvenation. This treatment is quick, convenient, and comfortable. To restore fullness to the backs of the hands, where volume loss can be prominent, Dr. Bucay or one of our experienced injectors may use a Juvéderm® or Restylane® product. Radiesse® is also a good choice of dermal filler for hand rejuvenation. During treatment, your provider uses a very small needle to inject the selected dermal filler beneath the skin on the backs of your hands. The filler will integrate into the surrounding tissue with ease, increasing volume by binding to water molecules or inserting tiny calcium particles that will deteriorate over time.
What Other Hand Rejuvenation Procedures are Available?
Smoothing out the wrinkles and fine lines on the hands isn’t the only thing you need to do to make them appear more youthful. You will also need to eliminate sun spots or age spots that are causing discoloration on the hands.
Laser treatments can help reduce the appearance of sun spots and age spots. The concentrated laser beams will dramatically reduce discoloration by working directly with the skin’s pigmentation.
What Hand Rejuvenation Procedure is Right for Me?
Every patient’s needs are different. If you are considering undergoing a hand rejuvenation procedure, schedule a consultation with our staff at Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics. During the consultation we will listen to you needs and be able to provide you with personal recommendations for hand rejuvenation procedures.
When making personal recommendations, we may encourage you to use undergo one or more procedures. For example, we may recommend that you use injectable fillers and laser therapy. Our recommendations will be based upon your unique needs and how we can best help you smooth out the wrinkles and fine lines in the hands.
How Many Treatments Will it Take to See Results?
You may see satisfying results from your hand rejuvenation immediately! Dermal fillers act quickly to plump the tissue into which they are injected. If you receive laser treatment for hand rejuvenation, you may see some improvements within a week or two after your session but may require subsequent treatments to fully resolve the signs of aging and sun damage. Your provider will discuss their recommendations after your consultation and an examination of your hands.
What is Recovery Like from Hand Rejuvenation Procedures?
After receiving dermal filler injections for hand rejuvenation, you can expect to be back to your normal routine within 24 hours. You may experience some bumps or lumps beneath your skin. Your provider will discuss how you can address them if they do. Usually, gently massaging the hands can help bumps resolve more quickly. It may take one to two weeks for your dermal filler to completely settle and for swelling to subside. If you receive laser treatment to reduce the signs of aging on your hands, your post-treatment side effects may vary based on the laser you choose. Some laser treatments may cause redness that lasts a week or two. Your provider will discuss how to manage this side effect and also how to protect your hands from further sun damage while you are recovering from your treatment. Generally, although there may be a few side effects after hand rejuvenation treatment, the recovery process is brief and simple.
Are Hand Rejuvenation Procedures Painful?
You can expect your hand rejuvenation treatment to be conducted with the utmost care. Your provider may apply a topical numbing cream if necessary based on the type of treatment you’re having done. Dermal fillers are made with lidocaine, which acts immediately with your first injection. The amount of this anesthetic in each dermal filler is low, so your hands will not be completely numb. However, your sensitivity will be lessened for a short time.
