Botox cosmetic is not a new treatment. It’s been around since 2002. Over the last 18 years, this FDA-approved drug has been administered millions of times. It has smoothed millions of wrinkles and lifted hundreds of thousands of brows. As a reputable dermatologist, Dr. Bucay is very familiar with Botox. That doesn’t mean you are. Each year, thousands of people get Botox for the first time. When they do, they like to have an idea about what they might expect. Here, we walk you through the steps of your first Botox appointment.
First, We Chat!
When you visit us for Botox, even if that was the intent of your visit, we begin by getting to know you. Botox is an excellent solution for various wrinkles. However, it isn’t used for every type of wrinkle. Our consultation alerts us to your unique needs and expectations. It helps us develop a treatment plan that is just right for you. Botox may be part of that plan if you want to correct frown lines, crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, or a droopy brow line.
Your Botox Treatment
Botox injections are usually administered right after a consultation. The choice is yours, though. If you decide that you want to undergo treatment, we get right to the fun part! Your provider will clean your skin and use a very small needle to give up to several injections. This is not painful. You can expect a minor pinching sensation and that’s it. Your treatment is complete in just a few minutes.
Recovery and Results
Most people who get Botox are able to go about the rest of their day as usual. When you get Botox for the first time, you might want to give yourself a little break. Side effects are usually limited to minor swelling and redness. However, some people feel flu-like for a few hours. Not having had Botox in the past, you may want to see how your body responds without having to attend work meetings or social engagements. Within 24 hours, the side effects that could occur have usually run their course.
Botox results build over 5 to 7 days. Once the muscles have been temporarily relaxed, they stay that way for 3 to 6 months. Touch-ups can be scheduled accordingly to maintain smooth, youthful skin.
