Hereditary Dermatological Conditions

DermaFuze There are several dermatological conditions that you may inherit from your parents. Typically, you will be warned about it by your parents or grandparents. Hopefully, they will already have prepared ahead of time with treatments to help you. Your skin can have problems that you didn’t know about. The sun can damage your skin, leading to cancer. Dry, windy climates deprive the skin of proper moisture, making your skin itch, burn and feel chapped. Your pores can be clogged up, causing pimples and acne problems.

So what do you do about these problems? Your first choice is prevention. Try to cover your skin as much as you can. If you are wearing shorts and revealing clothes, wear sunscreen. Eat healthy foods that will make your skin look and feel vibrant. The term for genetic dermatological disorders is genodermatoses.

There are many hereditary disorders, like psoriasis, that are mild and usually treatable. Others are fatal. When they are caught early on, there is more of a chance they can be treated easily. Spotting diseases early, no matter how damaging they are known to be, allows your doctor to plan out scheduled treatment.

One of the more commonly known skin disorders is called Darier-White disease. It was discovered when a mother and daughter came into a dermatologists office together in the late 19th century. This disorder is characterized by hardening skin cells on the outside of the skin, making it seem like fingernails. Another bothersome disorder that can be passed from parent to child is called Epidermolysis bullosa, which causes visible blisters.

Another inherited condition you might want to think about is called cutaneous porphyrias. It causes severe sensitivity to light and sun. Someone with this disorder would have skin that becomes very red, irritated and painful when exposed for even short amounts of time. Professional dermatologists will be able to determine if you have any kind of inherited dermatological conditions and how to treat them.
