The Incredible Impact of Chemical Peels

The effects of aging, stress, and the environment can deplete skin’s natural radiance. The good news? There are a range of rejuvenating skincare treatments available at the Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics that can help you achieve a more youthful appearance. If you’re interested in a non-invasive, non-surgical option with minimal downtime, consider chemical peels.

Here, we’ll take a closer look at this skin-resurfacing treatment, including how they work, their many benefits, and how to know if a chemical peel is right for you.

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

Chemical peels are non-invasive treatments in which a carefully formulated solution of alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, and/or trichloroacetic acids is applied to the skin. This prompts a controlled exfoliation process.

The exact makeup and concentration of acids in your chemical peel depends on:

  • The specific skin concerns being addressed
  • The desired depth of the peel

Repeated chemical peels will lead to improved results.

The Benefits of Chemical Peels

Skin peels offer many potential benefits, including the following:

  • Enhancing clarity, tone, texture, and brightness of the skin
  • Reducing discoloration and other effects of sun damage
  • Addressing acne blemishes and breakouts
  • Minimizing the appearance of fine lines
  • Boosting skin hydration
  • Improving superficial scars and other minor skin imperfections
  • Stimulating cellular turnover and the production of healthy skin growth and new collagen
  • Improving the effectiveness of skincare products by allowing them to penetrate the skin more deeply

Is a Chemical Peel Right for You?

While many people are excellent candidates for chemical peels, this treatment is not suitable for everyone. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, you may not be eligible for a chemical peel if you are:

  • Prone to abnormal skin scarring and extra scar pigmentation
  • Have a darker skin tone or complexion
  • Have recently used certain acne treatments
  • Have extra-sensitive skin due to an existing skin condition and/or medication

Furthermore, the success and safety of your chemical peel rely on your ability to adhere to your provider’s instructions for pre- and post-chemical peel care.
