Let’s face it; losing unwanted fat can be incredibly difficult. Many adults struggle with this goal not because they lack self-discipline but because the body often holds on to extra fat cells like they are an absolute necessity. They’re not, and they can be banished for good. At our San Antonio locations, we offer a few ways to sculpt the body. Here, we discuss how Vanquish and CoolSculpting compare.
Vanquish and CoolSculpting are proven body-contouring treatments that can improve a person’s appearance. Each uses state-of-the-art technology to achieve its goal, and one may not be better than the other as a general rule. What we say is that one may be better than the other based on a patient’s particular situation. CoolSculpting, as it sounds, eliminates unwanted fat by freezing targeted cells. Vanquish does so using radiofrequency energy, which heats the cells to the point of destruction. Both devices are safe, effective, and quick.
Why Is It So Hard to Lose Unwanted Fat?
It is common for people to struggle with a stubborn 10 to 15 pounds. Excess fatty tissue often sticks to the thighs, hips, and abdominal areas. Sometimes, it sticks to the back, near the bra or under the buttocks, or under the chin. Regardless of where it occurs, excess fat may linger for a variety of reasons. The very nature of fat cells is to resist elimination. When we lose weight through diet and exercise, our fat cells don’t go away, they merely shrink. As we age, hormonal and lifestyle changes can make it harder to maintain a consistent weight, which leads to certain problem areas.
When Diet and Exercise Aren’t Enough
It can be disheartening to face the same muffin top every time we wear our favorite jeans. We might choose clothes that hide wide hips or thighs. Problems like a double chin, well, there’s no hiding that one. Fortunately, body sculpting works differently than lifestyle changes. In a few short visits, our patients can notice remarkable changes in their shape. Our CoolSculpting and Vanquish treatments don’t just shrink fat cells, they destroy them so the body flushes them forever.
A CoolSculpting treatment involves cooling an area of targeted fat via two panels. To target fat, the technician first applies a gel sheet over the skin. This prevents overcooling and protects the skin. The device applicator than uses gentle suction to secure tissue between the panels. The device is turned on and the panels gradually get colder until they reach the set temperature at which fat freezes. When we say fat freezes, what we mean is that the lipids inside of fat cells form crystals. The membrane of the fat cell is disrupted, leading to irreparable damage. After treatment, the body gets to work eliminating the damaged cells. Results build over a 12-week period.
We could say that Vanquish is somewhat opposite of CoolSculpting. During this treatment, the device applicator delivers warming radiofrequency energy through the skin. The high temperature affects fatty tissue, causing cells to die off. The same process that occurs after CoolSculpting happens after Vanquish, leading to better body contours that can last a long time with a healthy lifestyle.
