How Does Cellfina™ Work?
What Is Cellulite?
Cellfina is very different from other cellulite treatments. Before we get into how Cellfina works, it is important to understand what cellulite is and where it comes from. Cellulite are connective bands that are woven throughout the fat in the thigh and buttocks areas. When these bands pull on the skin, they create the puckering seen on the surface of the skin.
Cellfina releases these bands so that the skin in able to bounce back and smooth out. It is the only FDA approved treatment that treats the primary cause of cellulite.
Genetics, weight gain, a stressful lifestyle and hormonal contraceptives may contribute to the forming of cellulite.
Cellulite Treatment Before and After
What Areas Can Cellfina™ Treat?
Cellfina is a treatment that is used to treat and improve the appearance of cellulite on the body. This treatment has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.
How Is Cellfina™ Performed?
Dr. Bucay will begin by identifying the cellulite areas you would like to target. A marker is then used to identify your cellulite dimples. Next, your skin in that area is treated with topical anesthetic. The Cellfina handpiece is then placed on the target area to begin treatment.
The system uses a suction stabilizer to pull the skin taut and stretch the cellulite-causing connective bands. The Cellfina handpiece then inserts a tiny needle to break those connective bands. Once the bands are released the skin bounces back upwards, as it is no longer pulled down in the various spots by the bands.
How Long Does Cellulite Treatment Take?
The length of one Cellfina treatment depends on the person and the treatment areas. Typically, one treatment takes about 45 minutes. It takes about one hour for Dr. Bucay to treat around 25 dimples.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Cellfina results are not immediate. Results can be seen in as little as three days, after your skin calms. Satisfaction with Cellfina grows with time.
For Cellfina treatment, patient satisfaction:
- At three months is 85%
- Is 94% at one year
- Is 96% at two years.
Will Cellulite Come Back After Cellfina™ Treatment?
Cellfina was first cleared by the FDA in 2015. The initial FDA approval of Cellfina was for results that last three years. Thus far results have not been reversing. So, although Cellfina has proven to provide cellulite reduction for three years, your results could be longer.
Cellulite Treatment: Cellfina™ vs Cellulaze™
Both treatments are effective in treating cellulite on the thighs and buttocks. While they are similar procedures, the two have their differences. Cellulaze uses laser energy to cut the connective bands that create cellulite, where Cellfina uses suction and the microblade. Cellulaze has more risks and complications, due to the laser energy involved in the procedure.
