San Antonio certified dermatologist answers your questions about Ultherapy
When you look in the mirror, does the face looking back at you look just a little bit different than it did several years ago? Many patients, in their mid-thirties or forties, begin to notice that their complexion starts to relax and loses elasticity, causing them to look older. This lack of elasticity can be noticed along the jawline, across the eyebrows, or in the eyelids. It used to be that the only way to address this change was to undergo a facelift. However, now patients have another, less invasive alternative with Ultherapy.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses ultrasound technology to firm and tone skin along your face and neck. The ultrasound energy is delivered directly to deep layers of the skin by a certified dermatologist where it stimulates the creation of new collagen. Patients can receive great results without incisions, anesthesia, or recovery time.
Is Ultherapy safe?
The treatment has been tested in clinical studies and more than 100,000 treatments have been performed worldwide. Additionally, the treatment uses ultrasound energy, which has been a part of the medical field for more than 50 years.
How long does the treatment take?
If you and your dermatologist determine that you need treatment on your entire face and neck, the treatment will take between 60 and 90 minutes. If less area needs to be treated, such as part of your face or the brow line, you could be done in 30 minutes. Regardless, you can return to your daily activities as soon as the treatment is over. There’s no downtime needed for recovery and most patients only need one treatment.
Will I see results immediately?
You may. Some patients do notice a difference immediately, but most of the lifting and tightening of skin takes place within two to three months as new collagen forms. Results will continue to improve for up to six months and last for approximately a year. However, as the new collagen builds, it also ages. Therefore, many patients schedule touch up appointments to keep up with their personal aging process.
